Riding in a jeep through the forest in South Africa we spotted a brown-hooded kingfisher. He was perfectly positioned to catch the light filtering through the trees. Unlike many species of kingfishers, the brown-hooded kingfisher does not eat fish. He hunts the forest for insects and small vertebrates.
